# Connect an AI assistant

> Use your account's MCP connection details and limit the machines it can reach.

First [connect an Engine](/app/connect-engine). Open **Connect** in the App. The supported assistant shown there is Claude. The ChatGPT tab is disabled and is not an available connection flow.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Copy the details shown in Connect">
    Copy the **Connection URL** and **Client ID** provided by your account. Do not construct a URL from the machine name or copy an Engine admin token into this flow.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Add the connection in Claude">
    In Claude's connector settings, add a custom connection using those details. Follow its sign-in flow back to Nerdit. Review the requesting client and the machines being authorized before approving.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Review access">
    Return to **Connect**. When an account connection is enabled, review **Machines this connection can reach**. Select the required machines and choose **Save** to update an existing approval.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Try a read first">
    Ask the assistant to list the available machines or services using the tools offered by its connection. Verify the selected machine before asking it to deploy, change, or stop anything.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## If Connect shows per-machine connections

Some deployments have not enabled the account connection. The page then shows **Per-machine connections** and a URL for each machine. Use the URL shown for the intended machine and the displayed client ID. Each connection reaches that machine; do not substitute an account-wide URL.

If there is no client ID or connection URL, follow the message on the page and contact support. Those values depend on operator configuration.

## Disconnect or reduce access

Use **Disconnect Claude** on Connect to revoke its account approval when that control is available. To end connected-app and dashboard access together, use [Security → Revoke access](/app/access-security). Reconnecting requires a new approval.

Remote access is still subject to the Engine's permissions and service ownership. Linking a machine does not make every local administrative action available to an assistant. See [Engine security](/engine/security) and [MCP setup and reference](/engine/mcp) for direct Engine connections.
